Anti-Royalty

It has always bothered me when people call me an African queen or a descendant of Kings and Queens of Africa. It bothers me for three main reasons:
  1. It is highly unlikely that African royalty was kidnapped or sold into the slave trade. It is more likely they were selling other Africans from rivaling tribes that had been captured in war.
  2. Wherever there is royalty there are people impoverished and to love royalty is to love keeping people poor.
  3. The Africans that survived the transatlantic slave trade had to cut ties with their tribal connections and unite as one to survive. That is why I am here. I am a proud ADOS woman because we built this country. In order to do it we had to be the strongest people on the planet. To skip past them in an attempt to connect with this fantom royalty is to be ashamed of them. I am not ashamed. I am proud. #ados
I am more likely the descendant of Nigerian Goat Herders than royalty.
